Frosted Red Velvet Cookies

From MARTHA WHITE

Makes 20 cookies

Frosted Red Velvet Cookies look festive and taste delicious for any holiday party.

INGREDIENTS

2 cups MARTHA WHITE All-Purpose Flour

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powdeR

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 tablespoon red food coloring

1/2 cup PILLSBURY Creamy Supreme® Cream Cheese Flavored Frosting

Red sprinkles (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a medium size bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl with an electric mixer, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes). Add the egg, vanilla, and red food coloring and beat until combined. Using a spatula, scrape down the sides and all along the bottom of your bowl to ensure coloring is distributed evenly. Beat again until everything is incorporated.
  4. Add flour slowly to the mixture until dough has formed. It will be crumbly, this is okay. Use your hands or a spoon to bring the cookie dough together in the bowl.
  5. Form 20 medium sized cookie dough balls and place onto the prepared baking sheet. Gently press down on each cookie to flatten slightly.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes, just until puffed and the edges are set. Allow the cookies to completely cool before frosting.
  7. Spread frosting onto each cookie and top with red sprinkles.
