DIRECTIONS

1.First, click here to download the template, adjust the size if needed, then print.

2.Using soft pencil on the back of pattern, cover the entire back side of paper with pencil scribble, set to the side.

3.Tape off large stripe as shown, 3″ [7.6 cm]. Paint the stripe with Imperial (red) chalk paint. Let dry and remove tape.

4.Apply masking tape in horizontal stripes over red area, skipping every other stripe. Repeat for vertical stripes over the red stripe.

5.Paint areas not covered with tape with Rich Black chalk paint. Let dry and remove tape.

6.On your paper plate, mix two parts water to one part paint to make some Rich Black paint thin and inky.

7.Connect solid squares with flat brush and thin black paint. Let dry.
TIP: Use the image as a guide.

8.Place pattern onto your sign with the printed side facing up and the scribbled side facing the sign. Trace over pattern with a pencil and remove paper. You will see a soft pattern on the plaque.

9.Use Rich Black chalk paint to paint the word “Joy”.

10.Paint “to the world” with Cottage White.

11.Mix equal parts water and black paint on plate. Use your stencil brush to splatter thin black paint onto sign. Let dry.

12.Using the edge of the brush, dip in Gold metallic paint and distress edge of sign. Let dry.
