Halloween Cookies

Makes 3 dozen cookies

Customize these Halloween cookies with your favorite designs to make them even spookier!

INGREDIENTS

CUT OUT COOKIES

1 cup sugar

1 cup butter, softened

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

3 cups MARTHA WHITE All-Purpose Flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

SHINY COOKIE FROSTING

3 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

2 tablespoons light corn syrup

1/2 teaspoon almond, lemon or vanilla extract

Red and yellow food coloring

Decorator food writing pens or icing

DIRECTIONS

1.Beat sugar and butter in large bowl with an electric mixer at MEDIUM-HIGH speed, until light and fluffy. Blend in 1 teaspoon vanilla and eggs. Beat in flour and salt at LOW speed. Cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 1 hour for easier handling.

2.Heat oven to 350 degrees. Roll dough on lightly floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 3-inch round or shaped cutter. Place 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.

3.Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute. Remove from cookie sheets. Cool 10 minutes, or until completely cooled.

4.Blend together powdered sugar, milk, corn syrup and 1/2 teaspoon extract in medium bowl. Add drops of red and yellow food coloring to make orange frosting. Spread or paint onto cookies. Allow to dry. Decorate with Halloween designs.
