This cake is so easy to make and the KIT KAT bars give it a crunch, chocolatey texture. Be sure to write your favorite message, hearts, or other Valentine’s greetings on top of the cake to make it extra special!

INGREDIENTS

HERSHEY’S “PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE” CAKE (recipe follows)

2 cups sugar

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup HERSHEY’S Cocoa

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

2 eggs

1 cup milk

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

 

PLUS YOU’LL NEED

Heart-Shaped HERSHEY’S Pans

3 cups pink frosting (ready-to-spread or homemade)

12 (1.5 oz. each) KIT KAT Bars

CHOCOLATE LETTERS and WORDS, optional (recipe follows)

Other decorations (optional)

 

DIRECTIONS

1.Bake HERSHEY’S “PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE” Chocolate Cake in 9-inch heart-shaped pans following the recipe directions. Frost with pink frosting.

2.Cut KIT KAT Bars into sticks along the natural breaking points. Arrange the sections along the outside of the cake.

3.Fill center section with CHOCOLATE LETTERS and WORDS message or other decorations. Makes 12 servings.

 

CHOCOLATE LETTERS and WORDS

Cover tray or cookie sheet with wax paper. Place 1 cup HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Chips in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 1 minute; stir. If necessary, microwave at MEDIUM an additional 15 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating, until chips are melted and smooth when stirred. Spoon melted chips into small squeeze bottle, pastry bag, or strong resealable plastic food storage bag fitted with writing tip.* Pipe freehand letters, words and hearts or follow patterns by drawing shapes on paper that is slipped under the wax paper. Refrigerate designs about 30 minutes or until firm.

* Plastic food storage bags can be used without the writing tips. Simply fill bag and then snip off a very small section of one bag corner.

 

HERSHEY’S “PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE” CAKE

Makes 12 servings

DIRECTIONS

1.Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two 9” heart-shaped baking pans.

2.Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans.

3.Bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Frost with
