Make the holidays extra fun for your favorite pooch with these Christmas Fleece Dog Toys. Pick your favorite, or make both…you furry friend will be jolly, holly happy when these homemade gifts show up under the tree!

FOR THE CANDY CANE TOY

YOU’LL NEED

1/4 yard (approximately) of fleece, red and white

Cutting mat

Rotary cutter (or scissors)

Acrylic ruler

 

DIRECTIONS

1.Cut 2” x 58″ strips of fleece: 2 of red and 2 of white.

2.Knot the 4 strips leaving about 3″ above the knot.

3.Spread the 4 strips into opposite directions with the knot in the center. (red strip going up, red strip going the the right, white strip going down, white strip going to the left).

4.Bend the “up” strip 45 degrees to the right, then down over the right strip. Bend the “down” strip 45 degrees to the right, then fold up over the left strip. This creates 2 loops. Bend the left and right strips over the loop closest to them and under the other. Pull the ends of all 4 strips to tighten the knot.

5.For the remaining box knots, loop the “up” and “down” strips diagonally, corner to corner. This will create the spiral effect as you knot the toy.

6.Continue making box knots until you reach the your desired length.

7.Tie a regular knot in the end and trim the ends to 3”.

 

FOR THE WREATH TOY

YOU’LL NEED

1/4 yard (approximately) of fleece, green

Cutting mat

Rotary cutter (or scissors)

Acrylic ruler

 

DIRECTIONS

1.Cut 2” x5 8″ strips of green fleece.

2.Knot the 4 strips leaving about 3″ above the knot.

3.Spread the 4 strips into opposite directions with the knot in the center. (one green strip going up, one green strip going the the right, one green strip going down, one green strip going to the left).

4.Bend the “up” strip 45 degrees to the right, then down over the right strip. Bend the “down” strip 45 degrees to the right, then fold up over the left strip. This creates 2 loops. Bend the left and right strips over the loop closest to them and under the other. Pull the ends of all 4 strips to tighten the knot.

5.Once the rope is 12-14″ long, unknot the beginning of your rope.

6.Match your strips from the beginning and the end to each other and tie each pair in a regular knot to join them. Trim excess fleece to create a clean circle.

7.Cut a 2″ wide strip of red fleece and tie it in a bow around the part of the wreath you joined.
