DIRECTIONS

.CLICK HERE to print the patterns (above). Print the patterns and trace onto the pattern tracing paper.

.From the pink poplin, cut 1 Basket and 2 Ears.

.From the polka dot, cut 1 Basket, 2 Ears.

.From the fusible interfacing, cut 1 Basket, 4 Ears.

.From the stiff craft interfacing, cut 1 Basket.

.Preparing the Pieces: Fuse the interfacing to the polka dot basket and ears, and to the pink poplin ears

.Baste the stiff craft interfacing to the pink poplin basket 1/4″ from the edges. Mark the basket center line.

.Assembling the Basket: With right sides together, sew the side seams in the poplin basket. Press open.

.To box the corners, fold the basket lower edge right sides together centering the side seam. Sew across, and repeat for the second corner. Trim the seam allowances to 1/4”.

.Repeat steps 8 and 9 for the polka dot basket lining.

.Assembling the Ears: Matching one polka dot ear and one poplin ear right sides together, stitch around the curved edge using a 1/4″ seam; leave the straight lower edge open. Repeat for the second ear. Trim the seam allowances and turn the ears right side out. Press.

.Fold the lower ear into a pleat so the finished ear width is 5/8″. Fold the second ear in the same manner, so there will be a left and right ear with opposite pleats.

TIP: On lightweight fabrics, insert a chenille stick between the layers of the ears to help keep them upright.

.With the basket right side out and raw edges matching, pin the ears in place on the basket front 1-1/2″ from the upper edge center; the polka dot side should be against the basket right side and pleats should fold toward the center. Baste 1/4″ from the edge.

.JOINING THE BASKETS: Press under 1/2″ around the top of the poplin basket and the polka dot basket liner.

.With wrong sides together, slip the lining into the basket and pin the upper folds together. Hand stitch around the upper basket, catching the upright ears between the layers.

.FINISHING THE BASKET: Mark a dot 2-1/2″ from the upper edge at the basket center line.

.Trim the chenille sticks to 9″ long.

.Whipstitch the center of the chenille sticks to the basket front at the marked dot.

.Glue the pompom nose over the center of the chenille stick stitching.

.Glue the wiggle eyes in place, positioning as desired about 1/2″ from the upper basket fold.
